REACH Database
The Registry of Electronic Archives in Correctional Healthcare (REACH) database is a largescale, multivariable dynamic catalogue of information derived from deidentified electronic healthcare records (EHR) of individuals discharged from county and municipal jails across the nation. Made possible through a confidential data-sharing agreement with NaphCare, Inc. (a leading national correctional healthcare organization), REACH contents include demography (i.e., age, race, and sex), medications prescribed while in custody, and booking history of individuals booked into jails from 2013 onward. The REACH database serves as a directory to facilitate identification of subsamples, and additional data (e.g., vital signs, lab values, treatments and compliance, clinical documentation) can be extracted from the EHR to address specific research questions. At present, 2023 is the most recent full year of available data, though data collection is continuing prospectively with new data added annually.
The NaphCare Charitable Foundation research team welcomes opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers who possess specialized expertise in various health conditions and can leverage the REACH database to further our understanding of the healthcare needs and treatment of correctional populations. To determine if REACH data fulfill your research needs, please complete and submit the form below. To the extent possible, describe the population of interest (e.g., age, sex, race, medical condition, medications or drug classes), and the NCF team will identify the number of unique individuals in the database that meet your criteria.
