Ten members of the Valley High School class of 2017 were awarded academic scholarships by the NaphCare Charitable Foundation of Birmingham, Ala., at Valley High’s Senior Recognition Program. This year’s awards mark the sixth anniversary of NaphCare’s contributions to Valley High School. Sixty-one graduating seniors have received NaphCare scholarships since the beginning of the Foundation’s association with Valley High School in 2011. NaphCare has also funded accelerated college tuition scholarships for over 60 rising seniors. The following graduates were honored as NaphCare recipients at this year’s Senior Recognition Day: Madison Colley, Icis McBride, Bentley Barnes, Ashely Ferguson, Ieshia Paige, Lindsey Siggers, McKenzie Hornsby, Sierra Bassett, William Brown and Tristan Nelson. Each student received a scholarship valued at $10,000. The scholarship Selection Committee consists of members of the VHS class of 1961, whose scholarship initiative for graduating Valley High School seniors first attracted the attention of the NaphCare Foundation six years ago. NaphCare Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic records and service to their school and community. NaphCare is particularly interested in students who have a strong track record of productive and innovative service to the Valley community and who show promise of ongoing community involvement in the future.
